Brighton has a new burger spot worth knowing about. Burger & Beyond, the London-born concept set up by Tom Stock and Craig Povoas back in 2015, opened its first restaurant outside the capital here on 15 July, and it has landed in a familiar spot: 56 Ship Street, the old Patty & Bun site. It is the chain's fourth full-service restaurant, and the first one to sit anywhere other than London, so it is a bit of a milestone for the group.

The menu is built around dry-aged, rare-breed beef burgers and British steaks, with plenty of room for vegetarians and vegans too. A few of the standouts are worth knowing before you go. The Bacon Butter Burger pairs the signature patty with double American cheese, thin-cut bacon pancetta and burnt butter mayo, while the Hot Honey Burger swaps beef for a fried chicken thigh topped with caramelised red chillies, hot honey, sriracha butter and ranch. For a plant-based option, the Oso Yaki uses a Symplicity patty with teriyaki sauce on vegan bread, served alongside corn ribs with vegan nduja. The steaks come from the Basque supplier Txuleta, and the rest of the menu fills out with Americana-style sides, house cocktails, craft beers and house-made soft drinks. On the drinks front, the B&B Punch mixes three rums with mango, pineapple, passion fruit and lime, and the Elderflower Hugo Spritz is a lighter prosecco and soda option.
Location is a big part of the appeal. The restaurant has both indoor dining and outdoor seating, and it sits just a minute from the Lanes, about seven minutes from Brighton Pier and roughly twelve minutes from the train station, so it is easy to drop into before or after other plans. It is listed in the Happily Affordable ££ bracket, which keeps it accessible for a midweek dinner or a weekend treat. On the practical side, there is disabled access, vegetarian and vegan options, halal choices, private hire and Wi-Fi, and if you would rather eat at home, pickup and delivery run through Deliveroo and UberEats.
Opening hours are fairly consistent across the week: Monday to Thursday it runs from 12:00 to 22:00, and Friday to Sunday it closes a little earlier, at 21:30. The launch was marked with a bit of fanfare, too. A city-wide scavenger hunt kicked off on 9 July, with 56 QR stickers hidden across Brighton, and the first person to find and scan each one walked away with a free meal for two. After that, a run of discounts followed through the second half of July for anyone booking a table. Tom Stock and Craig Povoas, both of whom have personal ties to Brighton and Sussex, were there for the preview night on 6 July, so the opening was more than just a business move.
It is worth noting the pedigree behind it. In June 2026, the Burger Dudes named the brand the best burger in the UK, and the group also runs Counter concepts in London food halls at St Pauls, Camden Lock, Canary Wharf and Box Hall, as well as in the House of Social food hall in Manchester. For now, though, the full restaurant experience is right here on Ship Street.
