With Mother’s Day coming up on Sunday, March 15th, it’s about that time when we all start looking for something a bit different to do. While there is absolutely nothing wrong with a classic afternoon tea at The Grand or a roast at Earth & Stars, Brighton has a lot of creative and hands-on options this year if your mum is the type who prefers making something to just sitting around.

One Garden Brighton is a big hub for this in 2026. They are running a Mother’s Day week from March 9th to 15th. On Saturday the 14th, there is a potted paper daffodil workshop from 10:00 to 13:00 where you can learn the art of paper flower making. If she prefers real blooms, Hannah from The Brighton Florist is leading a hand-tied bouquet workshop there on the same day from 11:00 to 12:30. It’s a good chance to spend some time in the walled garden, and they have a walk-in café for cream tea if you want to keep that tradition alive on the side.
For something more central, Puzzle Bored on New Road is hosting a mother and daughter tote bag painting session on Thursday, March 12th. It’s a relaxed, beginner-friendly craft afternoon. If your mum is into plants but maybe not the gardening part, The Foalyard is running a small closed terrarium workshop on Mothering Sunday itself. It usually starts around midday, and you get to build a miniature glass garden to take home. There is also a handmade card workshop at Liberation Art Gallery where an artist leads a session on painting floral designs, which feels a bit more personal than a supermarket card.
If you are looking for a gift that is more of an experience to look forward to, there are a few things happening just after the main weekend. Fuego’s Rise is a three-hour breathwork session taking place 450 feet up in the i360 pod on March 21st. It’s led by Sam Adams and is timed for the Spring Equinox, focusing on nervous system regulation with a pretty incredible view of the coast at night. Around the same time, the EXHALE Mental Wellbeing Festival is happening on March 20th and 21st, featuring various workshops and healing sessions. For a more traditional spa day, places like Little Jasmine Therapies, The Treatment Rooms, or the Stanmer Sauna Garden are the local go-tos for massages or sauna ceremonies.
On the entertainment side, Ironworks Studios is hosting Epicene on March 20th. It’s a gender-blending cabaret show where Paul Diello and an eight-piece band reimagine songs by iconic women like Kate Bush and Madonna. If you have younger kids in the mix and need something family-oriented, the American Express Stadium is throwing a Mother’s Day party on March 15th from 11:00 to 15:00. It’s a more social, lively event with activities for different ages. For those who want to get out of the city, there is a silver stacking ring workshop in a barn in Litlington on March 22nd, which includes home-made cake and a three-hour jewelry-making session.
