Second Chances Women's Art Workshops with Footprints Project

Samantha March leads the next session of the Second Chances art workshops at The Old School House on Tuesday 29 September. It's part of the Footprints Project, a Bournemouth-based initiative that works with people across Hampshire and Dorset who've been affected by prison and the criminal justice system. The project describes its aim as encouraging self-worth, nurturing hope, and bringing a sense of belonging to people who've gone through that system.

Second Chances is the project's art strand, and the sessions are run in small groups. Over the course of the workshops, participants make a range of things: tote bags, t-shirts, jewellery, greeting cards, and prints. Most of what's made ends up being sold at The Shire Hall Museum in Dorchester, so there's a real output to the work rather than it just staying in the room. Samantha March runs the sessions, and Footprints art co-ordinator Helen Hempstead facilitates them.

Places are open to women affected by prison and the criminal justice system, and referrals are made through the project. The workshops are supported by a Magic Little Grant through a partnership between Local Giving and the Postcode Local Trust, The Arts Society, and the Dorset Community Foundation.

The session runs from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at The Old School House, Gladstone Mews, Gladstone Rd, Bournemouth, BH7 6BG, and it's free to attend.
