Object Handling: Exploring India

Russell-Cotes Art Gallery & Museum is running an object-handling session on Tuesday 27 October, from 12:00pm to 1:00pm, around the theme Exploring India. It's one of those rare chances to actually get your hands on museum pieces rather than just peering at them through glass.

The session draws from the museum's own Indian collection, which they describe as a wide range of objects with rich stories. You'll be handling real artefacts from that collection, and the whole thing is run with the help of members of the museum's Indian community, who were consulted on which pieces to bring out. They'll be there on the day to talk through them, so you're not just left to your own devices.

If you're worried about the 'handling' part, they provide gloves, so you can pick things up without any second thoughts. It's a good way to spend a lunch hour if you're around the East Cliff area, and it's a bit different from the usual gallery wander.

The session runs from 12:00pm to 1:00pm at Russell-Cotes Art Gallery & Museum, East Cliff Promenade, Bournemouth, BH1 3AA. It's a free activity included in the price of admission, so as long as you've paid your way into the museum, there's nothing extra to add.
