Guide to Broadstone Fun Day and Rock on the Rec

Broadstone's annual community festival, Broadstone Fun Day and Rock on the Rec, is taking place today, Sunday, 5 July 2026, at the Lower Recreation Ground in Broadstone, Bournemouth. Running from 12:00 to 20:00, this free-entry event brings together live music, family activities, and a wide selection of local food and drink. Originally established in 2012 to mark Queen Elizabeth II's Diamond Jubilee, the festival has expanded over the years. The Broadstone Fields in Trust Association (BFiTA) organises the day to support and preserve the local recreation ground, adding the "Rock on the Rec" music segment five years ago to extend the evening entertainment.

The main arena features a packed schedule starting at 12:00 with the opening ceremony, followed by performances from the Orchard Academy dance group, Poole Borough Band, and Maverick Dance. Visitors can watch a birds of prey demonstration, a fancy dress competition, circus skills with Danii Curtis, and strength challenges by Sean Burgess and Friends. Later in the afternoon, the Significance Sign group performs, followed by the 'Car of the Day' reveal, entertainment from Jamie Jigsaw, and the raffle draw. The live music stage runs from 13:30 to 20:00, featuring performances by Krista Green, Emeris, Carley Varley, Jordan Watts, Weak Asleep, Velour, and Flynn's Arcade.

Beyond the performances, the event includes a classic car show featuring motorcycles, supercars, and tractors, with public voting for 'Best in Show'. The KidZone offers inflatables and rides, alongside other attractions like bungee trampolines, a climbing wall, the new Chuffley Light Railway, and the Brownsea Open Air Theatre. Please note that the scheduled dog show has been cancelled due to extreme heat. For food and drink, local vendors are on-site, including the Woodfired Piadizza Co, Flippin Delicious, Funky Fries, The German Sausage Co, Tikka Tango/Eat Greek, and The Italian Bakehouse, alongside sweet treats from Sugar Rush and Fat Sam's Ice Creams. Drinks are available from local setups like Ginclairs and Tap & Grape.

The Lower Recreation Ground, located on Lower Blandford Road, features a cricket pitch, a pavilion, and a recently installed £145,000 wooden play park designed by Jupiter Play for children aged six and older. Free street parking is available nearby, alongside small parking areas near the bowling green and Story Lane. While dogs are welcome on the recreation ground, they are not permitted inside the fenced children's play area.
