Contemporary dance piece 'BIRD' by Amina Khayyam Dance Company, part of the THIS IS DANCE collective of Birmingham venues.
Amina Khayyam brings BIRD to Fabric on Thursday 19 November, starting at 7pm. It's a contemporary dance piece that carries a bit of history with it: BIRD is the stage sequel to the Amina Khayyam Dance Company's critically acclaimed dance film Catch The Bird Who Won't Fly, so if you've seen that, this is the next chapter. If you haven't, it's a good place to start.
The performance is part of THIS IS DANCE, a collective of presenting partners, co-producers and commissioning organisations across Birmingham. It brings together Fabric, Birmingham Hippodrome, Birmingham Rep, Midlands Arts Centre (MAC), Fierce Festival and Sampad Arts. In its first season, the partnership put on 22 shows across seven venues and galleries, and gave audiences more than ten chances to interact with the artists. Now in its second year, it's continuing to bring local, national and international artists to a range of venues and contexts across the city.
Beyond the performances, the collective also connects with festivals and projects throughout the Midlands through 'Talking, Thinking, Dancing', which gathers industry professionals to explore choreographic research, dance performance and sector development. So while BIRD is the thing you'll see on stage, it sits within a wider conversation about dance and choreography happening across the region.
