Triple bill of contemporary Brazilian dance by three female choreographers, with two UK and Ireland premieres and a post-show Q&A on the first night.
São Paulo Dance Company bring their triple bill Brazilian Perspectives to the Birmingham Hippodrome on Friday 5 and Saturday 6 February 2027, both nights starting at 7:30pm. It's a double-bill of UK and Ireland premieres, with three female Brazilian choreographers sharing the main stage. The whole thing is performed by the dancers of the São Paulo Dance Company and forms part of THIS IS DANCE, an international dance season running across the city.
The evening opens with Cassi Abranches' Agora, a colourful, flirtatious piece driven by Afro-Brazilian fusion rhythms. From there it moves into Leilane Teles' Umbó, a ritual that blends evocative vocals with Afro-Brazilian textures. The night culminates with Lili de Grammont's EST.AÇÃO, which looks at climate change and the unpredictability of human connection. Between them, the three pieces cover a lot of ground — from the rhythmic and the ritual to the political and the personal — and they're all new to these shores.
