Rambert Dance Company's new dance work inspired by Russell T Davies' series 'It's a Sin', set in 1980s London and exploring the AIDS crisis.
Rambert bring their new work It's a Sin to the Birmingham Hippodrome from Tuesday 27 April to Saturday 1 May, playing the Main Stage. It's directed and choreographed by their Artistic Director, Benoit Swan Pouffer, and takes its title and its spark from Russell T Davies' landmark Channel 4 series, reimagining it as a raw, visceral and devastating epic told through movement.
Set in the heart of 1980s London, it follows Ritchie, Roscoe, Colin and Jill as they chase identity, connection and a life on their own terms. They find a world of abandon, music and friendship as day spills into night, before their lives are irrevocably changed as the AIDS crisis unfolds. The piece runs about 90 minutes including an interval, and there's age guidance of 15+.
Behind the scenes, the production is a big collaboration. Russell T Davies, the Pet Shop Boys and Glyn Fussell serve as executive producers, and it's presented by Rambert and Factory International, made possible with support from the Colwinston Charitable Trust's 30th Anniversary Fund and Arts Council England. It's co-produced with Wales Millennium Centre, Capital Theatres, Sadler's Wells and Les ThéÒtres de la Ville, before touring the UK.
