An offbeat dance collaboration bringing together eyewitness accounts of an everyday altercation, performed by dancers, an actor and a drummer.
Vivienne Franzmann & Frauke Requardt bring Anatomy Of Survival to the Patrick Studio at the Birmingham Hippodrome on Thursday 26 November, part of a run that opens on Monday 23 November and goes through to Sunday 29 November. It's a collaboration between award-winning playwright Vivienne Franzmann and choreographer and psychotherapist Frauke Requardt, and the whole thing is built around twenty-two different eyewitness accounts of a single everyday altercation. The way those accounts clash and diverge is the point: they use them to show how our nervous systems are still stuck in the Stone Age, reacting to a modern scrap with an ancient, wired-in response.
On stage, it's not a traditional play or a straightforward dance piece. Two dancers, an actor and a drummer bring those accounts to life, and there's one bear in the mix too. The show runs for about 60 minutes with no interval, and it's billed as being for all the nervous systems in the auditorium. It does contain some strong language and is recommended for ages 14 and over.
