W.I.T.C.H. (We Intend to Cause Havoc) play Radio/East on Wednesday, August 19. They're a pioneering Zambian psychedelic act and one of the defining groups of Zamrock, a genre that fused Western rock and rhythm & blues with traditional African sounds. They were among Zambia's most popular and influential bands in the 1970s, a time when psychedelic and hard rock found a significant audience across Africa.
After a long hiatus, the band re-formed in 2012 as their music was rediscovered by a new global audience. Since then, they've returned to recording and releasing new material: Zango came out in 2023, and SOGOLO followed in 2025, both on Partisan Records. Between those two, they've put out more music in the last few years than they had in the decades before.
