Opening reception of a contemporary art quilting exhibition contrasting realism and abstraction by Annette Kennedy and Sherri Lipman McCauley.
Annette Kennedy and Sherri Lipman McCauley open their joint exhibition, Wild and Woven: Two Perspectives in Contemporary Art Quilting, at the Old Bakery & Emporium on Saturday, August 22. Both are Austin artists working with paint on fabric, and the show puts their styles side by side: Kennedy's realism against McCauley's abstraction. The two perspectives play off each other, and the contrast is the whole point of the exhibition.
The venue is the Old Bakery & Emporium, a historic building on the northwest corner of Congress Avenue and 10th Street in downtown Austin. It's more than just a gallery space—it houses a shop of handmade items by more than 50 local artists, a Fine Art Gallery, and the Lundberg-Maerki Historical Collection, which is dedicated to Austin's immigrant history. Right next door is the Old Bakery Park, which was transformed in 2014 and features Generational Ties, a mural by local artist Ruben Esquivel, who was voted Austin Chronicle's Best Muralist in 2024.

The opening reception runs from 1 PM to 4 PM on Saturday, August 22, and admission is free. It's a good chance to see two local artists working in the same medium from opposite ends of the spectrum, all in one room.
