Austin-based multi-instrumentalist and singer-songwriter Warren Hood performs his soulful Texas fiddle and crooning style at The ABGB.
Warren Hood is back at The ABGB this Wednesday, August 13, from 7 PM to 9 PM. It's a residency he's held at the Austin Beer Garden Brewing Company for over a decade, so if you've spent any time around the city's music scene, you've probably heard his name before.
Hood is an Austin-based multi-instrumentalist and singer-songwriter who's built his reputation as a soulful Texas fiddler and a 'Chet Baker crooner.' He started on classical violin at 11, studied with Bill Dick, and earned a scholarship to Berklee College of Music, where he played with Steven Tyler and formed the acoustic string band Blue Light Special. He's a seven-time Austin Music Award winner for Best Strings, and he's performed as a soloist with the Austin Symphony.
For years he's worked as a sideman for Bruce Robison, Kelly Willis, Alejandro Escovedo, Joe Ely, and The Waybacks. He also played in the South Austin Jug Band, whose Sunday night residency at Momo's he eventually took over under his own name. His father, Champ Hood, was in Uncle Walt's Band, an acoustic folk trio that moved to Austin in 1975. Hood recently released a live album recorded at The ABGB, so this is the same room that captured it.
