A concert of three piano trios by Zwilich, Fibich and Brahms performed by the ensemble Triple Take.
Triple Take presents Pas de Trois at the First Presbyterian Church of Austin on Saturday, October 17. It's a program of three piano trios—violin, cello, and piano—by Ellen Taaffe Zwilich, Zdeněk Fibich, and Johannes Brahms.
The opening piece was written specifically for the ensemble by Zwilich, an American composer and Pulitzer Prize winner. It sits alongside Fibich's little-known Piano Trio in f minor, by the Czech composer whose cosmopolitan style was obscured by late-19th-century nationalistic trends. The second half belongs to Brahms: his late Piano Trio in c minor, op. 101, written in 1886 and described as a condensed work of great harmonic and rhythmic daring. Between the three, you've got a Pulitzer winner, a Czech composer who fell out of favor, and one of Brahms' final chamber works.
Triple Take is made up of violinist Javier Chaparro, pianist Maimy Fong, and cellist Liz Lee. The three of them are the ones bringing these trios together on one stage.
