World premiere live-action graphic novel adaptation of Treasure Island by Jason Neulander, featuring live storytelling and comic-book panels.
Treasure Island Reimagined is playing at the State Theatre on Congress Avenue on September 18 and 19, a world-premiere live-action graphic novel adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson's Treasure Island. It's written and directed by Jason Neulander, who also created The Intergalactic Nemesis.
The story is set in 1754 on the western shores of England. It follows Jane Hawkins, a twelve-year-old working at a seaside inn whose life takes a turn toward adventure when a sinister vagabond arrives with a mysterious trunk. The staging hands the storytelling to three performers who provide every character voice and sound effect live, while more than 1,200 comic-book panels blast one by one across a huge screen. The show is slated to begin touring in the Fall of 2026.
