A community sing-along for trans and intersex people led by AV Villarreal and Gender Unbound, featuring protest songs and queer bops in a judgment-free environment.
Gender Unbound and trans choir director AV Villarreal are hosting the Trans & Intersex Community SING! at Crashbox on Monday, August 24. It's a community sing-along for trans and intersex people, and the whole point is that you don't need any prior experience or a performance background to join in. The night opens with tea, followed by about 75 minutes of singing led by Villarreal, and then the group stays in community afterward.
The singing itself pulls from a few different places: protest songs, queer bops, and rounds. It's not a formal concert—you're part of the sound rather than watching it from a seat. The organizers describe it as a space that honors the grief, complexity, discomfort, euphoria, power, and joy of its participants' voices, which gives you a good sense of the range of what's on the table. If you've never sung in a group before, this is a low-stakes way to start.
Undead Voice is also supporting the evening. They run a free three-week voice-training program called Jumpstart, which is built around their Five Pillars of voice, and that'll be featured during the session. The sing runs from 7 PM to 9 PM at Crashbox, 5305 Bolm Road, and it's free with a free RSVP. It's open to anyone over 13 with a valid government-issued photo ID.
