Concert by Austin-based R&B singer-songwriter Tje Austin at Revelry Kitchen + Bar.
Tje Austin plays Revelry Kitchen + Bar on Friday, October 9. He's an Austin-based R&B singer-songwriter whose soul draws on John Legend and Lenny Kravitz, and the set is built around his own songwriting.
There's a fair amount of life behind the songs. Born in Hawaii, he was adopted at four days old by a Mormon family with military ties and grew up in a multicultural household with five brothers and three sisters, six of whom were adopted from other families. He came to Austin to attend the University of Texas, initially to work toward a political science degree, and became a vocalist by accident. He was a contestant on the first run of the North American version of The Voice and co-wrote songs with three-time Grammy winner Taj Jackson for his Xperience album. In 2015, he was a semi-finalist in the International Songwriting Competition in the R&B category, and he appeared at the 2014 ASCAP Expo for Pop Songwriting.
His writing tends toward the introspective and the passionate, and he pulls from his own life to explore loss and broken relationships. He manages himself through his own company, Falling Giants Music, and has been a recurring featured artist for Texas on Tour, a State of Texas initiative.
