A free workshop for students in grades 6 to 12 on the art of writing and self-discovery, with free journals and stickers provided.
The Austin Public Library Windsor Park Branch is hosting a Therapeutic Teen Journaling Workshop on Monday, July 27, from 6 PM to 7:30 PM. It's open to writers in 6th through 12th grade, and the session is held primarily in English.
Every student who joins gets a free journal and a set of stickers to decorate it, so you don't need to bring your own notebook to get started. The workshop focuses on using writing as a tool for self-discovery—learning how to put things on paper to better understand yourself and the people around you. It's a low-pressure way to spend an evening with a pen in hand, and since the journals are provided, it's as easy as showing up.
The Windsor Park Branch is at 5833 Westminster Drive. If you've never been, the building opened in 2000, though library services have been in the area since the late 1950s, when bookmobiles delivered to the Windsor Village Shopping Center on Berkman Drive. That was followed by the Windsor Village Station in 1963, and the permanent branch came later, funded by a 1992 bond that paid for six new branches across the city. When you walk in, you're greeted by Paul Bond's bronze sculpture Reading Between the Lions, part of the Austin Art in Public Places program.
