Concert by the girl-fronted circus punk band The Rat Utopia Experiment at Mohawk Austin.
The Rat Utopia Experiment are playing Mohawk Austin on Sunday, November 1, starting at 7 PM. They're a girl-fronted punk band from Tacoma, Washington, and they've been calling themselves the Pacific Northwest's favorite circus act since 2022. The 'circus' part isn't just for show—their sound blends theatrical, high-energy punk with political messaging and emotional storytelling, built around intricate lyrics and intense riffs. It's a mix that pulls from punk and alternative, and stretches over into straight rock.
On stage, the band is fronted by Phia on vocals, with Francis on bass, Maddox on lead guitar, Drix on rhythm guitar, and Christian on drums. This particular lineup came together after the release of their single Lobotomize Me and after the members graduated from school. They're known for a stage presence that can swing from tear-jerking to mosh-pit-starting in the same set, and that's a good way to get a sense of what they do: the theatrical side sits right next to the loud, high-energy punk.
