A devised performance weaving immersion, circus and carnival elements with the mysticism of Tarot and a Tom Waits-ian, seedy, character-driven storytelling style.
Bottle Alley Theatre Company brings The Poison Circus to The Paper Plate Gallery starting November 5, with performances running Thursdays through Sundays until November 22. It's a devised piece that mixes circus and carnival elements with the mysticism of Tarot, all held together by a seedy, character-driven storytelling style they describe as Tom Waits-ian. The ensemble builds 22 scenes, each one following the meaning or imagery of a card from the Major Arcana.
Behind the scenes, the production is directed by Trace Turner and Faith Sanders, with poster design by SJ Anderson. The company itself is a band of independent, experimental, and honest 'punks' in search of catharsis who specialize in found-space theatre and theatre of cruelty. They've put on 37 productions to date, and this one fits right into that wheelβan immersive, devised performance that leans into the strange rather than playing it safe.
