The Peterson Brothers are back at The Continental Club on Saturday, August 22, for their weekly residency. If you've caught them before, you know the drill: sibling guitarists Glenn Jr. and Alex lead the band, and the set pulls from soul, funk, blues, and jazz, all held together with jam-band improvisation. It's the kind of show that can shift gears mid-song, moving from a tight groove into something more open and loose.
The brothers hail from Bastrop, Texas, and they've spent plenty of time on the road. They've toured the United States and shared stages with Gary Clark Jr., Robert Randolph and the Family Band, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Buddy Guy, and the late B.B. King. That lineage shows up in the playing — the blues and soul are the foundation, and the jam-band side lets them stretch out. They've also played the Chicago Blues Festival, Austin City Limits, the Kerrville Folk Festival, and the King Biscuit Festival.
Because they hold a weekly residency at The Continental Club, they're a regular part of the South Congress scene rather than a touring act passing through. Critics have taken notice: Mark Murray of Sun Radio called them "the future of Austin music," and Jamfeed described them as "some of the most talented musicians I have seen come out of Austin."
