Hyde Park Theatre opens The Making of a Great Moment on Thursday, September 24, and it runs through October 24, with performances on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. The play is a comedy by Peter Sinn Nachtrieb, directed by Mark Pickell, and it centers on two members of the fictional Victoria Canada Bicycle Theatre Company who are determined to change people's lives through the power of theater.
It's a two-hander that puts the theater itself on display, and the cast is local. Lee Eddy has a regular role in the Netflix comedy series Mo and won Best of FronteraFest; Jeff Mills received the John Bustin Award for Conspicuous Versatility from the Austin Critics Table. The two carry the whole thing, playing those two actors as they work their way through the company's ambitions.
Outside of Austin, the show has picked up some strong reviews. The SF Examiner called it "a nonstop delight," and For All Events described it as "must-see theater at its finest." It's the kind of comedy that works as well on its own as it does as a love letter to the stage, and having two Austin actors lead it gives it a local connection that's easy to get behind.
