The Drawing Comics Workshop

The Drawing Comics Workshop is coming to the Austin Public Library Terrazas Branch on Tuesday, August 25, at 6 PM. It's a free workshop, so you can just show up and get into it without spending a dime.

If you've never been to the Terrazas Branch, it's at 1105 E. Cesar Chavez St. in East Austin. The branch has over 40 years of history in the neighborhood, and it's gone through a few lives before landing here. It started back in 1961 as the Pan-American Station, tucked into a small room inside the Pan-American Recreation Center on E. Third Street. In 1969, it moved to a 2,000-square-foot storefront at the corner of Canadian and E. First streets and took on the name Canadian Street Branch.

Seven years after that, it moved into its own 5,400-square-foot building on E. Cesar Chavez Street, where it's been since. The branch is named Terrazas in honor of Henry S. Terrazas, a young East Austin Marine who died in 1966 while fighting a forest fire. It's a piece of local history that's still very much a part of the community.

The workshop itself is free, and it kicks off at 6 PM on Tuesday, August 25, at the Terrazas Branch.
