A staged reading of the verse play 'The American Revolution' by Kirk Wood Bromley, following General George Washington on his quest to secure independence.
The Zahir Productions presents a staged reading of The American Revolution at the French Legation State Historic Site on Sunday, November 1. It's a verse play by Kirk Wood Bromley, and the reading runs from 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM, with November 2 held as a rain date.
Bromley describes the play as a hilarious and historical patriotic parade that follows General George Washington on his quest to defeat the British Empire and secure independence. Along the way, Washington confronts Redcoats, Tories, Hessian mercenaries, mutinying generals, a bankrupt Congress, spies, and Benedict Arnold. He's joined by 'The Rebel Mess,' billed as the world's most incompetent and endearing troop of new recruits.
Bromley has been writing verse plays since 1990. LA Weekly once called him 'Shakespeare on mushrooms,' and The New Yorker referred to him as 'the beloved bard of downtown theater.' His work has been produced by Aaron Beall, Ben Yalom, and Inverse Theater, of which he is Artistic Director. He's picked up a few awards along the way, including the Berrilla Kerr Foundation Playwriting Award in 2001 and the first Caffe Cino Award in 2005.
