Fourth annual Texas Wienerfest, Halloween edition, featuring dachshund races, agility courses, costume contests, vendors, food trucks and craft drinks at Sherwood Forest Faire.
Texas Wienerfest returns for its fourth year on Saturday, October 31, at Sherwood Forest Faire in McDade. This is the Halloween edition, which means the whole thing is themed for the holiday. It runs from 10 AM to 5 PM, so it's a full day of dog-watching rather than a quick stop.
ZilkerBark produces the festival, and Tomlinson's Feed is the top dog sponsor. The proceeds go to regional Texas dachshund rescue and foster groups, so your ticket helps out the very dogs the day is built around. The main draw is the Tomlinson's Wiener Cup sprint races, where dachshunds race down the track. There are also costume contests, agility courses, and pup-cup showdowns. Between the events, you'll find local vendors, food trucks, and craft drinks. For the dogs, there are cooling stations to keep them from overheating, and for the humans, shaded VIP lounges.
One thing to keep in mind: you don't need a dachshund to come. Spectators are welcome, and friendly, leashed dogs of any breed under 45 pounds can join in. If you've got a dachshund and want to enter the races, or if you're looking at the VIP upgrade, you can handle those online in advance. Parking is easy, with more than 6,000 free spots on-site.
