Texas Radio Live with Bill Kirchen and Deer Fellow

Bill Kirchen and Deer Fellow are the bill for Texas Radio Live at Moontower Saloon on Wednesday, August 12. It's part of the live radio show that broadcasts across Central Texas on the Sun Radio Network and streams worldwide at SunRadio.com, with Moontower serving as the Austin home for the series. This is one of several dates in the run, which also includes September 9, October 14, and November 11.

Kirchen is a Grammy-nominated guitarist, singer, and songwriter who first hit the national radar as a founding member of Commander Cody and his Lost Planet Airmen, whose "Hot Rod Lincoln" reached the Top Ten in 1972. He's put out more than a dozen albums under his own name and played alongside a who's who of Americana and roots rock 'n' roll, including Gene Vincent, Link Wray, Bo Diddley, Emmylou Harris, Elvis Costello, and Nick Lowe. Guitar Player called him the "Titan of the Telecaster," and he earned a Grammy nomination for Best Country Instrumental Performance for "Poultry in Motion."

Opening the night is Austin duo Deer Fellow, whose 2026 album Hues blends indie pop and folk. They've been compared to Bon Iver and Clairo, and they're both SXSW performers and Sonic Guild grantees. Between Kirchen's long history in roots and Deer Fellow's newer indie-folk, the two acts sit on opposite ends of the Americana spectrum.
