A beginner-friendly floral design workshop led by Juan Renteria that celebrates Latino heritage through contemporary floral arrangements.
Juan Renteria brings his floral workshop, Taller de Flores, to TOMO Mags in downtown Austin on Wednesday, July 29, from 6 to 8 PM. It's part of a traveling series he's taking across the country, and this one lands at the print-media shop on Brazos Street.
Renteria is a Mexican-born, Los Angeles-raised creator who goes by Juan 'El Creativo' and runs El Creativo Studios. He describes his practice as leaning on culture, architecture, and emotion, and Taller de Flores is built around celebrating Latino heritage through contemporary floral design and community. The session is aimed at beginners, so you don't need any prior experience or your own materials to join in.
During the two hours, Renteria gives live demonstrations on how to design large-scale floral pieces for bars and event spaces, and how to compose arrangements in the El Creativo style. Everyone walks away with a physical flower piece of their own. He keeps the classes intentionally small to keep the experience personal, and the format is the same one he's carrying from city to city on this tour. The workshop is held alongside fellow makers at TOMO, a print-media shop in downtown Austin.
