High-energy pop punk and emo cover band performance with crowd sing-alongs at Crow Bar.
Taking Back Tacos are playing the Raven Room at Crow Bar on Friday, October 9, starting at 8 PM. If you're not familiar, they're a pop-punk and emo cover band that builds its sets around the early 2000sβthe kind of songs a lot of us grew up blasting through headphones. The whole thing is designed as a sing-along, so you're expected to join in rather than just watch from the back.
They call themselves "Austin's Premier Pop Punk/Emo Party Cover Band," and the name fits the format. The set list comes from the audience's favorite bands of those glory days, and they often run themed shows that pull the crowd into the mix. They've spent the last year and a half playing stages across Austin, Kyle, Pflugerville, San Marcos, and San Antonio, bringing those early 2000s anthems back out in high-energy cover versions. They've shared bills with tribute acts like Foo Shot (Foo Fighters) and Riot Radio (Paramore), and have opened for local bands like Killer Tango and Frogmouth.
Behind the name is a group of Austin musicians who first connected through social media groups in early 2025. Since then, they've been playing the pop-punk and emo songs of the early 2000s across Central Texas, with crowd sing-alongs and audience participation as a core part of the show. The set list is built from the bands the crowd loves most from that era, and they frequently run themed nights that lean into that same participatory energy.
