Texas pop artist Sydney Wright performs live loops at Soundspace at Captain Quack's, presented by Sonic Guild Austin.
Sydney Wright plays Soundspace at Captain Quack's on Wednesday, October 7, as part of a Sonic Guild showcase. She's a Texas pop artist who builds her songs with Ableton live loops, a sound that's drawn comparisons to Maggie Rogers and Imogen Heap. Born in Snyder, Texas, she's been writing songs for more than a decade, and her voice often gets likened to pop darlings like Sara Bareilles.
That pop sensibility is where the comparison ends, though. Her work carries a darker, more experimental edge built on hip-hop rhythms and live loops of piano, guitar, beatbox, and doo-wops. When she plays with a band, she ranges from a duo to a quartet, but her first solo album, Seiche, is a live-looping one-woman show. That's the version of her act you'll see here: one person on stage layering loops in real time to build out the full sound.
