Group exhibition featuring over 45 artworks by 17 Texas artists exploring the meaning of surrealism in contemporary art.
Ghost Pepper Gallery is putting on a group show called Surreal Times, which runs from October 1 through November 7, with the opening reception on Saturday, October 10, from 5 PM to 8 PM. The gallery is at 10300 Metric Boulevard #250 in Austin.
The show gathers more than 45 pieces from 17 Texas artists, and the work spans a fair few mediums: glass, wood, acrylic, photography, and mixed media. The lineup includes Alex Van Zelfden, Candy Hahn, Carol Hayman, Chaos Woods, Chase Muller, Devin Ratheal, Emma Strohl, Falon Mihalic, Gildalorena Martinez, Grisha Khutoryan, Juan Villegas, Keith Moy, Kimberly Berriochoa, Lucian Richards, Reece Fish, Riley McGarity, and Sarah Forgé. With that many names and that much variety, you'll see a lot of different ways of working in one room.
Ghost Pepper describes the show as an inquiry into what surrealism means these days. Some of the work pays homage to surrealism as a traditional art form, while other pieces look at what the movement means to artists of this generation. It's a group show, so you'll see how different people answer the same question side by side.
