A hands-on quilting workshop for children led by artist Deb Harris as part of the museum's monthly Sunday Funday family programme.
Deb Harris is leading a quilting workshop for kids at the Neill-Cochran House Museum on Sunday, October 11, from 11 AM to 2 PM. It's part of the museum's Sunday Funday series, which opens the doors every second Sunday of the month for hands-on activities, scavenger hunts, self-paced tours and, weather permitting, lawn games on the museum's lawn with space to picnic in the shade. The museum frames the series as a chance to learn how we got to where we are now.
For this particular session, kids make quilt blocks with fabric and thread, guided by Harris. She's the museum's artist on view right now; her fiber-art exhibition Thoughts in Fiber opened on Saturday, September 26, so the workshop sits alongside the work she's showing. It's a good way to see her process and then try it out yourself.
Throughout 2026, the museum is marking the 250th birthday of the United States with history-themed activities, like red, white and blue tie-dyeing and letter-press printing. Harris is involved in more than just this one date: she leads a Quilt in a Jar Workshop on Saturday, November 7, and an artist talk on Sunday, January 17, 2027. The museum also runs a Modern Times lecture series, now in Season 21, 1905-1915, which looks at Texas and its region at the start of the twentieth century.
