Lucas Hudgins returns to ABGB's Sunday's Best to play a mix of original hits and classic country covers.
Lucas Hudgins is back at The Austin Beer Garden Brewing Company (The ABGB) on Sunday, August 9, as part of the venue's Sunday's Best series. He'll be playing a mix of his own original hits and classic country covers, so you'll hear his own songwriting alongside the songs he grew up on.
Hudgins is a South Austin songwriter who's built his following around a traditionalist sound that leans hard on the country songbook. One description of his playing puts it in a way that's easy to picture: if Johnny Cash and Waylon Jennings had a baby, he'd sound like Lucas. It's that kind of straightforward, old-school country that doesn't try to reinvent the wheel, and it's exactly what he's bringing to the ABGB.
If you haven't caught him live yet, you can get a sense of what he does from his tour opening for Charlie Crockett. That's a good place to start if you want to hear how he handles a room before you head over to see him in person. Between the originals and the covers, the set should give you a full look at where he's coming from.

The show runs from 4 PM to 7 PM at The ABGB, 1305 W Oltorf St. There's no cover charge, though the band takes cash tips, so bring a few dollars if you're feeling the set. It's a Sunday afternoon slot, which makes it an easy one to drop into without having to clear your whole evening.
