If you've never been, the Broken Spoke is a South Austin landmark that's been around since 1964, when James M. White opened it. It's billed as the 'Last of the True Texas Dancehalls,' and that's a fair description: it's a live music venue that doubles as a restaurant serving homestyle meals, with its chicken fried steak being the one most people talk about. The room runs Dinner & Show from 6 to 8 PM, Tuesday through Saturday, in the restaurant, so you can eat your fill before the dance floor fills up. On Wednesday through Saturday nights, they also hold two-step lessons from 8 to 9 PM, which is a good way to get your footing before the main act takes the stage.
