A group exhibition by emerging Texas artists exploring how space shapes our experiences, opening the gallery's new location.
Art for the People Gallery is opening a new location at Springdale General with a group exhibition called Spirit of Space, which runs from Saturday, August 22, through Friday, October 30. The opening reception is Saturday, August 22, at 6 PM.
The show brings together contemporary work by emerging Texas artists, all working around the idea that space shapes how we relate to ourselves, to each other, and to the unknown. It's a wide net: the artists look at everything from the vastness of outer space down to the quiet observation of light moving across a wall. That range is part of the point—how the scale of the space around us changes how we feel and how we see.
This exhibition also marks a new chapter for the gallery. For the last ten years, Art for the People has showcased the work of hundreds of Austin-area artists, mixing original art with artisan goods. They describe their mission as highlighting Austin artists and humanity's appreciation of art, while making quality work accessible to new and seasoned collectors and supporting emerging creative entrepreneurs. Moving into the new space at Springdale General is a big part of that ongoing work.

Entry is free, so you can drop in whenever fits your schedule. The gallery is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 AM to 7 PM, and Sunday from 10 AM to 5 PM, and is closed on Mondays. The new address is 1023 Springdale Rd #2A, Austin, TX 78721.
