A six-week outdoor wellness series for seniors combining gentle fitness and brain-boosting games to improve balance and memory.
Spark in the Park is back at Gus Garcia District Park this fall, running on Monday mornings from October 12 through November 16, 2026. Each session is an hour long, from 10 AM to 11 AM, so it's a morning thing that gets you out and moving early in the week. If Mondays don't work for you, there's a parallel run on Thursdays, October 15 through November 19, over at Dick Nichols District Park.
It's a six-week outdoor wellness series for seniors, put on by the Austin Parks Foundation and Aging is Cool. The sessions combine gentle fitness—with seated options available if you'd rather not be on your feet the whole time—and brain-boosting games and activities, all set out in the park. The two parts are meant to work together: the movement helps with balance, and the games target memory. You don't need any experience to join in, and there's no gear to worry about—just bring a water bottle and wear something comfortable.
Spark in the Park is part of the foundation's broader In the Park program, a free, family-friendly strand they've run across Austin for more than a decade to get people into the city's parks. It sits alongside other series you might recognize: Movies in the Park, Playdates in the Park, Art in the Park, and Hoops in the Park. This one is just the senior-focused version of that same idea.
