Southern Culture on the Skids perform their high-energy rockabilly set at C-boy's Heart & Soul in Austin.
Southern Culture on the Skids play C-boy's Heart & Soul on Friday, April 15, 2027. The show starts at 8 PM, and the venue is at 2008 Congress Ave S in Austin.
They've been recording and touring since 1983, and the current lineup—Rick Miller on guitar and vocals, Mary Huff on bass and vocals, and Dave Hartman on drums—has been playing together for more than 30 years. That's a long run for any band, and they've covered a lot of ground in that time. They started out at all-night house parties in North Carolina and worked their way up to late-night TV, appearing on Conan and The Tonight Show. They've played at the base of Mt. Fuji in Japan and performed for inmates at North Carolina correctional facilities.
Along the way, they've shared stages with Link Wray, Loretta Lynn, Hasil Adkins, and Patti Smith. Their music has appeared in films and television, been parodied by Weird Al, and even used to sell diamonds and pork sausage. In 2014, the Southern Folklife Collection at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill honored them with an exhibition. Rolling Stone called their live shows "a hell raising rock and roll party."
