Soundbath with VHU, a Colombian roots-puller DJ, marking National Hispanic Heritage Month at Pease Park.
VHU plays Pease Park on Friday, September 26, at 7:30 PM. The Pease Park Conservancy is putting on the evening to mark National Hispanic Heritage Month, and they've brought in Ana Barajas to perform under her VHU moniker in the park's literal treehouse.
As VHU, Barajas DJs ambient folklorism built around her recent singles "Exilio" and "Estrella de la Mañana." It's a Colombian roots-pulling sound that leans into the atmospheric side of things, and these two tracks sit right at the center of it. If you've followed her work, you know that's a shift from how she operates under her own name: as Ana Barajas, she's crooned classic traditionalism, with songs like "Ojos Bonitos," "Volver Volver," and "Siboney" showing her comfort with the older songbook. The VHU set moves that Colombian influence into a more ambient, DJ-led space.
Barajas has been a part of the local scene for about 15 years, and that kind of time shows in the way she handles both the traditional and the ambient. The event is open to all ages, and admission is free, with the exception of 20 tickets for the top of the treehouse, which go for $12 each. It starts at 7:30 PM at Pease Park, 1100 Kingsbury in Old West Austin.
