Slaid Cleaves plays the Saxon Pub on Wednesday, November 25, starting at 8 PM. He's an Americana and folk artist from Wimberley, Texas, and he's been releasing records for about 25 years.
If you've followed his work, you'll know he's a songwriter who leans into the storytelling side of folk. Joseph Hudak of Rolling Stone Country put it pretty plainly, calling him "a master storyteller, one influenced not by the shine of pop-culture but by the dirt of real life." That's a good shorthand for what he does: songs that pull from actual life rather than polished pop tropes.
His most recent album, Together Through the Dark, came out in early 2022 after he worked with producer Scrappy Jud Newcomb. It was his first record in five years, and the singles started hitting radio and streaming in early 2023 before the full album had its worldwide release on March 3. Between that and the records he's put out over the last two and a half decades, there's plenty to draw from for a set.
