Shinglers

Shinglers play Central Market South on Thursday, August 13, at 6:30 PM. It's part of the store's live-music series, which runs four days a week and doesn't cost anything to attend.

Central Market South is at 4477 S. Lamar, and it's been a fixture of the neighborhood since it opened in 1999 as the chain's second homegrown location. It's always leaned into the South Austin funkiness of its setting, putting together a calendar that's even more eclectic than its elder sibling's, with Western swing, bluegrass, jazz, and Latin rock all sharing the same stage. The store itself first opened on South Lamar Boulevard in 1994 and took its cues from famous European markets: the layout follows a serpentine flow designed as an immersive sensory food adventure, punctuated by bright pops of fresh color and scents and flavors from around the globe. It's a division of H-E-B, and the live-music series is paired with a deli and sandwich shop and full groceries.

In 2015, the store was a Best of Austin Critics Pick for Best Sugar Nostalgia. The music series continues to be one of its hallmarks, bringing in a wide range of acts throughout the week. Shinglers take their turn this Thursday, August 13, starting at 6:30 PM. Admission is free, so you can catch the set without a ticket or a cover charge.
