Concert by Shelley Mac, a Kiwi singer-songwriter known for her work with Pearl and as an opener for Sting.
Shelley Mac plays PLATE By Dzintra on Wednesday, October 14, at 6 PM. She's a Kiwi singer who now calls Texas home, and her work pulls from a wide spread: pop, jazz, blues, reggae, and a bit of Americana. It's a lot of ground to cover in one set, and that's exactly the point.
She first made her mark in 2006 with her New Zealand band Pearl. Their debut album, No Ordinary Day, produced six hit singles, including the No. 1 New Zealand radio hit "Life is Beautiful," and drew comparisons to Heart, The Corrs, and a pop-infused Dixie Chicks. When Pearl disbanded in 2009, she moved to the United States, where she met Texas rocker Rod Williams.
In late 2010, they caught the attention of Sting's promoter, and Shelley went on to perform alongside Sting during the New Zealand leg of his Symphonicity world tour. More recently, in 2022, she released several new singles and launched the business Tulum2u. Between the early New Zealand hits and the newer material, there's a fair amount of ground to cover.
