Seed and Plant Swap

The Austin Public Library Windsor Park Branch is hosting a Seed and Plant Swap on Monday, August 24, from 5 PM to 7 PM. It's a straightforward, community-driven evening: gardeners bring their own plant cuttings and seeds to share, and everyone walks away with something new for their garden.

If you've got a few cuttings from a plant that's taking over its pot, or a handful of seeds you saved from last season, this is where they go. You trade what you have for something else—maybe a variety you've never grown before or a cutting from a neighbor's favorite houseplant. If you're just starting out and don't have anything to trade, you can still come along to adopt your first plant and pick up seeds for the season ahead. It's as much about the swapping as it is about meeting other gardeners in the neighborhood.

The venue is the Windsor Park Branch, located at 5833 Westminster Drive. The branch opened on July 15, 2000, though library services in the area go back to the late 1950s, when bookmobiles delivered to the Windsor Village Shopping Center on Berkman Drive. That was followed in 1963 by the Windsor Village Station. A 1992 bond issue eventually paved the way for six new branches, including this one. When you arrive, Paul Bond's bronze sculpture Reading Between the Lions greets you at the front door, part of the Austin Art in Public Places program.

The swap runs from 5 PM to 7 PM on Monday, August 24, and it's free to attend.
