A monthly community workday where volunteers gather to work the land at the Festival Beach Food Forest, an edible garden in downtown Austin.
Festival Beach Food Forest is hosting another Second Saturday Community Workday on Saturday, September 12, from 9 AM to 12 PM. It's a monthly thing—the second Saturday of every month—where the community gets together to work the land. No experience is necessary, so you don't need to know your way around a garden to show up and help out.
The forest itself is an edible garden and a fenceless community pilot project right in the middle of downtown Austin, on the shores of Lady Bird Lake. It's open to the public, and visitors can forage for nuts, fruits, vegetables and medicinal herbs. The workday is when that community effort actually happens on the ground: you'll be working the same soil that grows the food people come here to pick.
Every week we pick 🏆 the 5 best 🏆 things to do in Austin and send them to your inbox. Just one weekly email, no spam.

Logistics are straightforward. You bring your own water; snacks and tools are provided. Since it's a community-run project, an RSVP is requested online. It's free to join, and the morning runs from 9 AM to 12 PM at 29 Waller Street.
