Benefit evening with playwrights reading monologues from their works, hosted by Matrex Kilgore.
ScriptWorks Solos comes to Hyde Park Theatre on Sunday, October 18, from 5 to 7 PM. It's a benefit evening for ScriptWorks, the playwright development and service organization that's been running here for years, and the format is simple: member playwrights take the stage to read monologues from their own work. The pieces come from a mix of new, published, and previously produced plays, with a few performed by actors chosen by the writers. Matrex Kilgore hosts the night.
Executive Artistic Director Christina J. Moore describes it as an event where writers match up with their words. She points out that playwrights rarely perform in their own plays, so audiences almost never hear the work in the creator's own voice. That's the whole point of the evening—hearing the lines read by the person who wrote them.
The lineup is long. Reading their own work that night are Heather Bishop, Major Black, Camden Factor, Alex Garza, Raul Garza, Ava Love Hanna, Christine Hoang, Laura Tabor Huerta, Max Langert, Rob Nash, Abby Pfeifer, Sarah Saltwick, and Helen Sneed. With thirteen writers on the bill, you'll hear a wide range of voices and styles in a single sitting.
