Ninth annual citywide celebration of trees, pollinators and urban nature with more than 100 free, family-friendly activities across Austin.
Roots & Wings is back across Austin from October 17 through November 1, with more than 100 free events spread throughout the city. It's Austin's signature celebration of trees, pollinators and urban nature, and 2026 marks the festival's ninth annual edition.
What started in 2018 as a single-day gathering has grown into a citywide tradition that reaches tens of thousands of residents each year. The whole thing centers on the urban forest as a living system that supports the health and resilience of the entire community. That's a natural fit for Austin, which has been a Tree City USA community for a long time and sits right along the monarch migration route.
The schedule is built around more than 100 free, family-friendly activities scattered across the city. You'll find tree plantings, guided nature walks, pollinator programs, outdoor art making, youth-centered learning experiences and community celebrations. Because the events are spread out, you can pick and choose what works for you rather than trying to do it all in one go.
Every week we pick 🏆 the 5 best 🏆 things to do in Austin and send them to your inbox. Just one weekly email, no spam.
