A community event featuring rock identification, fossil digging, geode cracking and a kid-friendly scavenger hunt.
Rock Fest 2026 runs August 8 and 9 at Nature's Treasures, 11055 N. I-35 in Austin North. The Austin Gem and Mineral Society is behind the whole thing, and they're treating it as a community event. If you've got a thing for rocks, fossils, or just want to spend a weekend seeing what's actually inside a geode, this is the spot.
One of the weekend's highlights is the professional rock identification station. If you've got a piece from your backyard or a trip that you've never been able to place, you can bring it by and have someone who knows their stuff tell you what it is. It's a good chance to get a real answer instead of guessing based on a Google image search.
Beyond the identification, there's plenty to actually do. You can dig for fossils, crack open geodes to see what's inside, and there's a kid-friendly scavenger hunt for the younger crowd. It's the kind of event that works as well for a family outing as it does for someone who just wants to hang out and look at stones.
