An evening celebrating Black artistry, songwriting, and musicianship with Scott Strickland, Taméca Jones, Chief Cleopatra, and Pascal Kerong'A.
Black Artists Rock returns to Soundspace at Captain Quack's on Thursday, October 15, as part of the Rising Works Collective's third season. It's a single-night bill that brings together four voices for an evening celebrating Black artistry, songwriting, and musicianship, with the lineup featuring Scott Strickland, Taméca Jones, Chief Cleopatra, and Pascal Kerong'A.
Each artist works across a wide range of styles, and the night is described as a celebration of the genre-defying spirit of Austin's music community. The music moves between soul, rock, folk, gospel, funk, and pop, with sounds shaped by experiences that reach beyond any single category. Rather than sticking to one sound, the bill pulls from several different traditions at once.
Beyond the music, there's a visual side to the season: the artwork comes from Shavanna Pinder. The show is open to all ages, so it's as much for families as for anyone else who follows the local scene.
