Missouri-based singer-songwriter Riley Downing performs live at Sagebrush in Austin, blending country, blues, folk, and soul influences.
Riley Downing plays Sagebrush on Saturday, December 12, at 7 PM. He's a Missouri-based singer-songwriter who built his following playing in the New Orleans combo the Deslondes and recording with the Tumbleweeds, whose sound weaves together country, blues, folk, R&B, bluegrass, rock and soul.
Downing's deep, dusty, drawling voice and plainspoken songwriting drew critical attention to Start It Over, his first solo album, released in 2020. The record came together during the pandemic in collaboration with Deslondes bandmate John James Tourville (JJ) and producer Andrija Tokic (Dre), with sessions at Bomb Shelter Studios in Nashville.
A host of session musicians played on the album: Meg Coleman, Jimmy Lester, Dennis Crouch, Jack Lawrence, Jeff Taylor, Peter Keys, Billy Contreras and Derry DeBorja. The set will be Riley Downing alone on the bill.
