Volunteer stewardship session for invasive species removal and trail restoration at Walnut Creek Metro Park, led by the Austin Parks Foundation.
Austin Parks Foundation is hosting a volunteer stewardship session at Walnut Creek Metro Park on Friday, October 23, from 9 AM to 12 PM. It's part of a four-week volunteer education series they're running with Siglo Group, aimed at neighbors and anyone who spends time in the park.
The work follows the Walnut Creek Metropolitan Park Unified Stewardship Plan, so it's not just a one-off cleanup. The goal is to support native plants and wildlife, manage invasive species, and help volunteers get a better handle on how the park's ecosystem actually works. You'll leave with the knowledge to keep doing this kind of work with APF on your own.
On the day, the group meets near the Walnut Creek Park Playground at 9 AM. The morning covers a few different tasks: removing invasive species, tree care, seeding native plants, collecting seeds, and trail maintenance. Depending on the day, you might be pulling weeds, tending to trees, or working on the trails, so it's a good mix of active work and learning as you go.
