Volunteer skill-building session on trail work and invasive species management at Barton Creek Greenbelt, part of the Restoration Reset series.
Restoration Reset is back at the Barton Creek Greenbelt on Saturday, October 17, from 9 AM to 12 PM. It's part of a park stewardship series run by the Austin Parks Foundation, Austin Parks and Recreation, and Siglo Group, and it's aimed at neighbors and park lovers who want to get their hands dirty.
The session is part of an eight-week skill-building accelerator. The work is hands-on: you'll be managing invasive species, building trails, tackling erosion, and collecting and planting native seed. The idea is to turn that physical labor into a way to learn about Central Texas ecology, so you're not just pulling weeds—you're figuring out why they're there and what they're doing to the land. A Nature Steward acts as an educational guide throughout the process, keeping things focused on the learning side of things.
If you stick with it and complete the course, you'll walk away with the knowledge and the ability to keep doing this kind of work with the Austin Parks Foundation, and you'll be in a position to help lead future volunteer events. It's less of a one-off cleanup and more of a training ground for anyone who wants to take a more active role in looking after the city's green spaces.

On the practical side, you'll need to come prepared for a morning outdoors. Bring plenty of water, electrolyte drinks, and snacks, and wear sturdy closed-toed shoes with ankle coverage. Sun and bug protection are a must. Parking is available on-site, and the session runs from 9 AM to 12 PM at the Homedale Entrance, 2010 Homedale Dr, Austin, TX.
