Workshop combining reproductive health education with assembling free menstrual supply kits for the community, open to ages 15 and over.
Reproductive Health 101 & Menstrual Equity Kit Building with the YWCA comes to the Austin Public Library Windsor Park Branch on Tuesday, September 15. It's a partnership with the YWCA that puts two things on the table at once: a hands-on activity and a learning session. You'll spend the evening assembling free period supply kits for the community, and while you work, you'll listen to a talk on reproductive health. It's the kind of event where you walk away with both a bit more knowledge and the satisfaction of having put something useful back into the city.
The talk is titled Reproductive Health 101, and it covers a few different angles. It touches on reproductive health and justice, moves into menopause, and looks at the connection between the two and mental health. It's not just a quick overview; the session is designed to let you listen and learn while you're busy with the kits, so you can take it in at your own pace. The kits themselves go to people in the community who need them, so the work you do there has a direct destination.
There are a couple of practical things to keep in mind. The workshop is open to anyone 15 and older. Because the program is funded by the YWCA's reproductive health grant, they ask that you bring an ID or a document showing proof of address in Travis County—a student ID works too. If you don't have one or prefer not to provide it, that's fine; no one will be turned away for lack of identification. It's just a detail they have to track for the grant, so if you've got it, bring it along.
