Solo exhibition of new work by Regina Durante Jestrow, exploring colour, geometry and the possibilities of textiles through cut and reassembled fabric.
Regina Durante Jestrow opens her solo exhibition, Strips, Stripes, Pieces, Parts, at Ivester Contemporary on Friday, September 11, with a reception from 7 to 9 PM. The show runs through October 17.
Jestrow works with fabric in a way that feels more like painting than sewing. She takes textiles she's dyed, painted, thrifted, and collected over time and treats them as her palette, cutting them into long strips and reassembling them into checkerboard rhythms, interlacing patterns, and shifting geometric structures. It's a process of breaking things down and building them back up, and the result is a series of new works that continue her exploration of color, geometry, and what textiles can actually do.
There are a few threads that lead here. The work was informed by her years of traveling across the United States and by her encounter with the work of Lynne Mapp Drexler, whose use of color, texture, and rhythmic mark-making pushed her to experiment further with fiber-reactive dyes and painted textiles. Much of the show came together during Jestrow's 2026 residency at MASS MoCA, where repeated encounters with the work of James Turrell and Sol LeWitt prompted her to reconsider the relationships between color, material, and space.
